Cottagecore- Bathroom Design
Vintage-leaning vanity, mirror, tile and storage, planned so a small bathroom still feels considered.
What Cottagecore Decor Actually Is
Cottagecore is a rural, romantic decorating style built on things that look made, mended and collected. Painted wood, worn linen, pressed botanicals, mismatched china, florals and gingham, and furniture with some age to it. The cottagecore aesthetic reads as warm and lived in because almost nothing in it looks new.
The difficulty is that the same qualities that give cottagecore decor its charm also make it easy to overdo. A room full of pattern, trinkets and handmade pieces stops reading as character and starts reading as clutter. Most of the work in a cottagecore interior is deciding what to leave out.
The Elements That Make a Room Cottagecore
Six decisions carry most of the style. Get these right and the room reads correctly even before the decorative pieces arrive.
Colour palette
Sage and moss greens, chalky creams, faded rose, butter yellow and soft blue, kept muted rather than bright.
Florals, gingham and ticking
Pattern is the fastest route into the style and the easiest to overdo. Usually one large floral leads and the rest support it.
Natural materials
Wood, stone, wicker, rush, cotton and linen. Matte and slightly imperfect finishes rather than gloss or chrome.
Collected furniture
Traditional shapes with some age: painted dressers, spindle chairs, a scrubbed table. Matching sets work against the look.
Botanicals and dried flowers
Wildflowers, herbs, pressed botanicals and dried bunches. Plants belong in a cottagecore room in a way they do not in every style.
Layered textiles
Quilts, throws, cushions and curtains doing the softening.
Every Version of Cottagecore, and Which Suits Your Home
Cottagecore is not one look. The version that suits your house depends on its light, its architecture and how much pattern you actually want to live with.
Dark cottagecore
Deep greens, near-black woodwork and heavier textiles. Suits north-facing rooms that will never be bright anyway.
Goth and witchy
The darker end taken further, with candles, apothecary jars, botanical prints and antique brass.
Modern cottagecore
Cottage warmth with cleaner lines and far less pattern. The easiest version to live with in a newer house.
Vintage and grandmillennial
Chintz, ruffles, skirted furniture and inherited china, used deliberately rather than apologetically.
Boho and fairy
Softer, lighter and more whimsical, with draped fabric and warm string lighting.
Farmhouse, English and French
Regional variations that differ sharply in pattern and ornament.

In Person or Online
Projects in and around Fair Oaks, California can be handled in person. Everywhere else is worked remotely from photographs, measurements and a floor plan, which suits cottagecore well because so much of the style is decided through palette, pattern and furniture choices rather than on site.
Either way this is design guidance rather than construction. Layout, colour, materials, lighting and furnishing decisions are specified; building, plumbing and electrical work stay with your own trades.

HomeCottageCore is the cottagecore interior design practice of Sherine Abdelaal, based in Fair Oaks, California. Her professional background is in interior design and interior design and merchandising, including an association with American River College.
